Landon - thank you SO MUCH for commenting on the post. I just went on the library catalog and put a hold on those books by Shelby Foote. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hi Mrs. Kathy, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I just wanted to respond to the comment you left me. I know ten times more about the Civil War than I do about WWII (it was really my first love). I have half a dozen speculatives concerning the Civil War (of course, all of them lead to a Confederate victory) and I believe I'll put them on my blog at some point. I also wanted to tell you that if Joshua is really interested in the Civil War, there is one three volume series he must read. The Civil War volumes 1-3 by Shelby Foote, is just about the best work of Civil War history I have ever read.
Thanks!

Ginger--how funny!! I didn't know Joshua had a twin in Lousiana. I saw a girl on the cover of a homeschooling catalog that looked just like the daughter of a women's blog I sometimes read. Weird how faces can look familiar.

Kathy, I was reading your blog and came to a picture of your oldest son and Brooke, looking over my shoulder, says, "Hey, I know him." "No, you don't." "Yes, I do. He homeschools, doesn't he?" "Yes, he does." "Yes, I know him from our homeschool PE." "No, he lives far, far away from here." "Oh, well, someone who looks just like him goes to our homeschool PE." So he has a twin in Louisiana. :^D

Hi Kathy!
Your mom forwarded this blog to me because....well, just look at my email address :-) I have always been obessed with American history, and particularly the ACW. I have written about it, lectured on it, started a Civil War Round Table (13 years ago now) in Ann Arbor (go to www.aacwrt.org), and worked at a Virginia Civil War battlefield as a uniformed historian. I am always trying to get your dad to reseach his family's CW history- they must have been Confederates, living in Virginia.
I am very glad you are teaching your kids and others to be interested in this period of our history. I am very afraid that our public schools are not doing the same. If this trend continues, generations from this time forward will begin to forget our heritage and lose their pride in being Americans.
Kari is moving up your way- to Portland, on March 4. How far are you from there?
God bless and thanks for keeping CW history alive!
