Samuel - yes, Potato Chips would NOT last long with this crew. They can down a bag in a single lunch. Very impressive but not handy for this particular project. :)

How much computer time do you think you guys spend in a week? A day?

Thanks so much for the wonderful chuckle. The photos kept me reading. :-) In all honesty - great plan. I enjoy reading BOTH Tim & Kathy. You both have a wonderful way of expressing yourselves & I always have a grin on my face. Thanks.

Loved the entry, Tim. You and Kathy have a wonderful way with words and I always enjoy reading the blog.
Last year I gave up playing online Dominoes because it became such a waster of my time. I couldn't seem to control it, so I had to go cold turkey.
You are so right about God convicting you in one area and working on others at the same time. This year is my no TV year. It wasn't a thought out plan, just a nudge on God's part. Somehow it is easier for me to so without something completely than to just do a little, so the TV went off for me.
Now, if I could just figure out how to stop eating without dieing, I might be able to lose some weight! :-p

Thanks, Kristine, for helping to keep me humble. :)

One of the really good things about marriage is that one becomes, over time, more like one's beloved ... and so I find myself adding more pictures to satisfy those with short attention spans (no offense intended). I doubt I'll ever get to the point of posting 25 pictures on a single blog, though. :)

LOVE the photos of the kids! (Um, sorry, Tim, did you say something?)

Seriously, I enjoy reading both of you, and Tim, you always have wonderful input and perspective. My dh pretends my blog doesn't exist--on the plus side, I don't have to share the computer.

Ha -- Sara, good to hear from you. Whenever I become discouraged about the time I have wasted, I think about Moses, who spent 40 years unlearning many of the things he learned in his first 40 years, and didn't really start his career until he was 80. He turned out OK, so there is still some hope for me, even though I am forty-mumble-mumble years old, already.

Thanks for 'showing the flag' and proving that there are a few die-hard Tim-readers out there. Sniff. My shameless attempt to puff myself up has been successful. :)

Aunt Kate -- one of the reasons Kathy is not on the rationing plan is because a lot of the time she spends on the computer is relationship-building time, as I suspect it is for you. With your gift of encouragement, I am not surprised that you spend a lot of time in front of a computer; I know that you have greatly cheered Kathy and me many times.

We also have noticed that same effect of videos ... we've been rationing video consumption as a matter of course for a long time. It is always tempting for parents to use a movie as a babysitter, but sooner or later, the movie ends. Then you're left with discontented, grumpy kids who have NOT spent that time learning to be creative in their play, but rather who are conditioned to be entertained. If I had a nickel for every time my kids have asked me, "Dad, what can I do?" ... I'd, er, have a lot of nickels.

Whew. Much conviction!! I have very achy shoulders lately and I'm thinking it is due to my time spent right here on my computer. With workmen here and parts of the house cut off, I'm not sure where to BE.

Conviction: these are excuses!! Surely I can find something useful to do with my time!! Not eating out, shopping, playing computer games or watching tv. I, too, do NOT want to divulge the hrs spent doing these things.

Andy and Anne are convinced tha when Mason and Chloe watch videos they become more quarrelsome and discontent. Interesting.

Thanks, Tim, for writing and sharing and being Real. Isn't it amazing/miraculous/wonderful that we are loved by the Lord exactly as we are. In our Wed. Bible study we are studying how to become holy, as commanded. Intentional discipline towards that end- is necessary. You and Katherine model this beautifully.

I love you Edgrens. Aunt Kate

If only my parents had thought of a scheme like this, I might actually have made something of myself. Want to adopt a 40-year-old?

Half of Tim's readers,
