Um. You must keep in mind that I grew up 40 miles away from Santa Cruz, California. (It's okay, I don't need pity!)

My kids were THRILLED to see the first beach two years ago...in Washington. It was rocky and it was cold. They wrapped themselves in seaweed in an attempt to keep warm. We went again last year, and this time only Trevor ventured in. To his knees.

We've promised that the beaches in Virginia are warmer. Unfortunately, we'll be several hours away!

I think YOUR kids are very brave. Or else they're polar bears!

Oooooh, I so miss the beach. I grew up mainly very close to the sea and now we live in the dead centre of England, so it's a good 4 hour journey away. I can't wait until we get to the sea again this year!

Stony beaches are tough on little feet. Can you not get some swim shoes or plastic shoes they can wear in the water?

342 miles of coastline? Pitiful, just pitiful. Norway, a not very imortant country by the world's standards, but it has thousands of miles of coastline.

What a fun day, but Kathy, really, no swim gear! It there is water within a mile, my kids will find it and get into it. No swim gear would not have stopped them.

We have the same thing happen with Bessie getting bored. It is hard to find families that have older kids and little ones. She will often bring a bag with book, gameboy, stitching and the mp3 player.

Brian dream of boating on the northwest coast. That area is terrific for boating. Maybe one of these days!

Hi, I like that Michelle. She sounds like a wonderful flexible dear friend!!

Fun pictures, Katherine. I, too- am surprised there is a beach so close to you. I've gotten used to the concept of 'beach' when Andy says beach in OR that it will mean sand, sand building, sand dunes, maybe wading, and warm jackets. Ha. Looks WARM in your pictures.

What about water shoes for those rocks??

I love you. Aunt Kate

We had such a FUN day yesterday, basking in the sun as the children swam and played and played and swam. The pic's turned out great. This needs to happen a lot more in August, baring any record rainfall, that is! I'm not sad that July's coming to a close, except for the fact that it means that there is only one month left of glorious summer!
You are a treasure my sweet friend....thanks for spending the day with us!
