Hey Tim....
Wow, what a flash back. Don's music was such a friend to me during very difficult times in high school. The memories came flooding back, along with some tears, and 'I'll never let go of your Hand' was such a promise to me during those times. Thanks for mentioning the website. It was bittersweet to listen to his music again. Hard to look back on the history but I'm so grateful to God for what He's brought me through and He has NEVER let go of my hand! He is faithful.

I agree...there should be more stories in the music we listen to. Keeps our perspective on the TRUTH that is in His Word!
I was a John Fischer fan too!!! :)

This does bring one back memories. One of my favorite groups was Lamb, although they didn't sing traditional stuff. I loved the sound of their songs.

I also remember when Keith Green was killed. It seemed a great loss.

Terrific entry and I'm going to check out the MP3 downloads.

Liz, how right you are, I entirely forgot Keith Green. I remember how sad I was when I heard about his death in 1982 -- in just seven years of being a Christian, Keith sure made a mark in Christian music! His story of the Prodigal Son was always one of my favorites.

In some ways, though, you underscore my point -- why is it that modern musicians don't seem to want to tell Bible stories in song?

It is certainly true that Don Francisco's songs begin to sound the same, which is true of a few others I could mention (like Michael Card or Ray Boltz, to name a few). And there is a definite folksy feel to many of his songs which may not appeal to everyone ... I guess I'm just a folksy kind of guy. :)

Am I too old? I don't know any of these people. I recognize some of the names, but not many.

I LOVE contemporary praise music. Wish I had access (and energy to find) to more of it!! Our new church Wooddale has introduced me to more than before. Also Mpls. has a wonderful Christian radio station which has helped broaden my music knowledge.

THANKS. Great blog. Love you, Aunt Kate

Takes me back! I liked some of Don Francisco's ballads too, though I scorned some of them, I'm afraid, as sounding like all the others. You forgot Keith Green in your list from "when you were a boy." And what aobut Scott Wesley Brown (a northern Virginia-grown CCM) or Love Song or Phil Keaggy or John Fischer or John Michael Talbot? In a store window in Bergen this very week I even saw CDs of Evie, some of whose music I liked. Then there was the "hard" music of Randy Stonehill...
