You both have wonderful words of wisdom . . .along with writing a book I think the two of you should go on the speaker circuit! I would pay to hear the two of you speak on parenting :-)

It is incredibly difficult to be consistent in parenting. Thank the Lord for His grace and renewed mercies each day. Sometimes I would rather give up and not have to spend so much time TRAINING and TRAINING but the alternative is scary (I've seen some out of control parents and children) so on I go.

What shall we discuss next week? Tim says it's my turn. Hmmm.

Thank you all, for such supportive words. Frankly, I braced myself for a negative reaction ... but I guess the folks who disagree just don't bother to read, let alone comment. :)

As with many lessons we learn in life, part of our motivation in writing these things is to renew our enthusiasm and hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard. Since Tuesday, I've had several occasions to notice that first-time obedience is not always, er, achieved.

We do plan to keep on doing the Tuesday Tips as long as we think they are useful, so thank you for the encouragement!

Just wanted to pop in & thank you for this parenting series you are writing. I'm loving it. This is something I've been studying on for the last few months. What you are saying lines up directly with everything I've been reading. Thanks!

This is such a great post. I wholeheartedly agree. I used to be such a stickler with this, but have gotten lazy lately. I need to get back to this as I have begun to become a screaming mommy and I hate that. Thanks for the reminder

Great entry, Tim! This is something that is very lacking in our Littles. We all have so far to go. It is a good reminder that we need to work harder.

Hi, I'm going to try to email this to Anne, Rachael and Angee. Wonder if they will read it? understand it? gain anything by it?

I can't do it over again- but I fully support your ways!! They seem godly and kind to me.

I love you, Tim. Aunt Kate

Great post. We were very diligent to require first time obedience with our older 3 children. I have gotten a bit lazy with our 4th (LOL). Thanks for the timely reminder... hmmmm... I wonder if relative humidity has anything to do with "my" laziness (LOL).

Just wanted to tell you that I agree. Sometimes I get tired of looking like the "mean parent" when we are at functions, but when I think about how well disciplined and happy Scarlett is, it really erases any guilt I have.

Tim and Kathy,
You both embody what you write about. Your point about children, and people in general I would add, being willing to bank on the love is so crucial. I needed to hear that again.

I was once told that if we don't have our children's hearts, no method of discipline will work. Very true.
