We have not tried the pushups or situps method yet, although being a military family and all, you would think we would.

Around here the favorite is..."go jump on the trampoline for a while". I'm thinking of getting one of those little tramps to keep in the house for winter...our 4yo will need it come winter.

Always enjoy your posts.

Ah yes, the old physical exercise method. I am no stranger to it, I must admit, although my father seems to take a strange delight in watching me do physically draining things. Then again, this is the same man who takes "shortcuts" on hikes. Often we get back hours later covered in mud, and I suspect that he really knew all along what was in store for us...

We give the gift of pushups quite generously at our house! When we were still trying to break Zachary of the finger sucking habit, he could rack up 60-70 pushups in a single car trip. Come to think of it, all those push-ups did come in handy when we entered wrestling. Don't give up on those endorsements yet! :)

Hey! Funny one! You guys really have a challenge with your weather. Does the grey weather get you down? Now I am feeling very glad that you went to that lake on that sunny day. You should do that all the time when there is a sunny day! Scrap school and go outside -- Scrapus Schoolus Solaris, should be your new motto!

Great point, and going along with it, the general idea that change alone -- in location, in activity, in focus -- can sometimes help move us out of our ruts.

I love the pictures of your little Olympians. We do this too in a less structured way than you -- "OUT. Run to the top of the street and back 2x," and usually, "TAKE THE BLASTED DOG TOO." That's the best part of all. We'll have to try the "push ups for inadvertently wronging someone" plan -- I always wonder what to do for the consequences of carelessness, can't ignore it but can't over-discipline for it. I make them hug and kiss each other on the cheek and that has them all laughing and hollering in mock horror, also seems to move everyone on to a new mood.

Hi, Tim. I have heard about this from y'all before and think it is excellent. It always reminds me of Mom (Nana) and her telling us to 'go outside and fight.'

I love you and yours. Aunt Kate

I've also used the run around the house trick.... a few years ago we started assigning outside chores to our oldest DS! That's been great as well.... he likes to go outside and do his "work" first thing in the morning most of the time. Our days seem to go better when he's first had some outside time doing something physical.
