Create a movie.
Write a song-have a band-homemade instruments, etc.
Make a puzzle-cut it out, share it.

Oh, I love these ideas! Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), we took so many breaks during the “traditional” school year, that we won’t finish our Sonlight schedules until July 1 or 2. We usually start them again the first week in August. I’m actually contemplating going right ahead to the next level when we finish, so that we have time to break whenever. So, if there’s no big summer off, maybe there’ll be no summer boredom?

oooh, I really like ideas #3 and #4. We’ve thought of the different lawn-mowing angle of doing it with scissors. One could also try: run laps around the block; walk the dog (You could probably substitute a younger sibling if you don’t have a dog); polish the silver; ironing (especially unpleasant if it’s hot); take everything out of the fridge and wipe down the shelves; scrub the oven… Hmmm … these are all chores I consistently avoid doing myself. I better not get bored this summer!

Try giving extra computer chips to the winner of “Cleanest Bathroom in the State”.Weed, mow, trim the yard until it’s beautiful. Detail a number of the children to come up with a new way to power the world’s electric needs. And detail the rest to find the invisable ten-hour chip.

My Mom always had lots of good boredom busters:

Oil the stairs (we once rented a house with a wooden spiral staircase)
Weed the garden
Study German vocabulary words
Practice for a piano lesson
Mow the lawn

As a result of this strategy, I spent nearly my entire childhood free of boredom. Thanks, Mom!
