AMEN! I'm sure we lost a bunch last week.. waiting for the statement. I'm not worried because we still have enough years left to still try to save some $$ for retirement, but with ss not what it was and people needing to save more for their golden years it I can see where it is very hard for those who are already in retirement and counting on their $$ to sustain them after they aren't able to work anymore.

As I think about what I wrote, and review some of the comments, I hope that I didn't come across as flippant about the impact that this is having on people. This was not my intent.

I was out of work for more than 17 months in the last recession, and (although God protected me from the worst of it) I know some of what it means to be in financial trouble.

It is good for me to be reminded of those who feel the pinch more sharply than I do (yet), in terms of lost jobs and needed retirement funds diminished. I'll be praying about this.

Wonderful words and insight, Tim.

This is a great opportunity for people to return to God. Many have strayed into a life of greed, selfishness and irresponsibility.

I fear for the plans I had regarding my future, my daughter's future. I cringe every time the statement for my 401K come in the mail as I lose even more that I worked for and carefully set aside in hopes of being able to care for myself during the golden years of old age. It is easy to fall into a pit of despair.

Yet there is always hope for those that know the Lord and prayer is a very powerful tool.

Good points to remember, Tim. Speaking as someone directly effected by the financial crisis (dh worked for WaMu in corporate operations), now is definitely the time for us to remember that God is the One in charge, leading us by the hand. Though it might be a bumpy flight here on earth, we're assured of a gentle landing eventually.
