P365 – Day 42 (4 Kids in Red)

This is my blog from Sunday. I couldn’t post it because the link I was pointing too wasn’t ready (trouble loading pictures). Better late than never .

On Sunday there was a benefit concert for The Refuge (Olympic Mountain Retreat and Conference Center) by pianist, Diana Walker. The children were asked to help – Daniel and David handed out bulletins and Sarah and Rachel presented Mrs. Walker with flowers after her beautiful performance of Beethoven’s Sonatas.

Of course, the true treat of the day was the delectable feast Tim’s mother (and a few friends) put on for the reception. You can see the children are barely containing themselves.

give me some food

Are they praying or preying??

please

Please, may we have some MORE!!

It really was a beautiful concert ending in a delicious collection of desserts. It has been almost two years since I went off sugar and this feast about sent me diving off the deep end, into a plate (or two or three or four) of chocolate. Yum! This picture is still incomplete – there are 3 or 4 more dishes that have yet to be added. I counted 34 platters full of scrumptious sweet somethings by the time the reception began. True sugary heaven!

Tim managed to get a sweet picture of the children sitting outside the chapel. Joshua was off at a middle school retreat so he’s missing from the Cute Kids in Red picture.

You can read the blog by Tim’s folks (they are the builders/directors of the retreat center) for more information and pictures about The Refuge. www.olympicrefuge.org

P.S. Thursday’s blog will have to wait for another day. I’ve run out of computer time for the evening.

  1. The truly tragic part of the whole experience was the way we had to rush off after the concert and couldn’t linger to devour the dessert buffet (our Bible study was meeting at our house). With only 70-odd people attending (and some of them were very odd) [that's you, Mom], each of us needed to eat a half-platter or half-cake of desserts — I was ready and willing to do my part. Alas, someone else was forced to step into the breach for me.

At one point Diana played Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, with which, I am proud to admit, I am very familiar (due to my extensive education in classical music). Of course, I mostly know the piece from its prominent use in the musical and theatrical masterpiece, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. In the song (as presented in the musical) Lucy is trying to persuade Schroeder that, in the event they were ever married, he could play party songs like “April Showers” or even “Frere Jacques”. Ultimately Lucy concludes, in her nasal singing voice, “Beethoven’s nice, too.” I barely restrained myself from belting that line out at the conclusion of the concert, for which I am sure many are thankful.

  2. The table did look very welcoming and pretty.

Your kids are gorgeous looking and very funny as they pretended to try to sneak some food!

  3. That is SUCH A CUTE PICTURE! I love it! How fun for your kids to be involved in something so rewarding.
