Shall We Sunbathe

This may not be a surprise to some of you, but if you go out in the sun two days in a row you stand a very good chance of getting a sun burn.

Even in Washington state.

Even if the temps only hit 75 or 80.

Ouch.

My scalp is tender. I think I managed to get a sunburned head. It’s a unique talent, I know.

We found some sand

Meanwhile, VBS continues. Joshua is a crew leader and all around helper. Rachel is on the team leading worship. Daniel, David and Sarah are participating in groups this year. I helped with food on Monday and Tuesday. The church is providing dinner for the workers each day before VBS starts. My kids have latched on to this idea and think it’s great.

“I think we’ll have dinner at home tonight,” I said to the children this morning. Stunned silence followed my announcement. “Um, you know, because Daddy will be home and we can all eat together.”

Finally one of the children spoke up, “But I like eating at church. They feed you. What would we have if we stayed home?”

look at that mountain!

Obviously my culinary skills are being wasted on these children. Not one to fight the inevitable, I called Tim at the office. “Honey, I have good news and bad news,” I informed him cheerily. “The good news is that they are serving dinner at church this evening. The bad news is that they are serving dinner at church this evening, and we’ll all be there when you get home from work.” Thankfully Tim is a resourceful lad and didn’t mind eating leftovers in peace and quiet while we were gone.

Rachel and Libby

I hear they’re serving chalupas tomorrow night. Sounds delicious. I wonder if Tim would go for a church sponsored date night. :)

  1. I enjoyed these pictures of the beach, the city, and the mountain all in one scene, Great picture. ARC

  2. Gorgeous mountain in the background! I love seeing where other people live.

You know, I’d be all over that church dinner myself:)

  3. When I was in San Francisco I managed to burn my part pretty bad most days (which I kept moving…). I finally gave up and stopped fixing my hair with a part!

  4. These pictures on the pebbly beach make me remember growing up near your area. Mt. Rainier is beautiful. What a great shot. You’re creating wonderful memories for your kids.

  5. I hate having a sunburned head. Especially when it starts to flake. Eew! I’ve also burned my lips before and my eyelids. I’ll take pasty whiteness any day, thank you very much.

You’re making me desperately miss the beach! I used to go every summer when I lived in Seattle. Lakes just aren’t the same as the ocean.

  6. Great pics and a great reminder! What a beautiful mountain Rainer is! We went to St. Helens a few weeks back and… OUCH! My scalp got it! That’s where I forget to protect!
Now… where are ya in these shots!? It can’t be Owen Beach, because it’s sandy and Owens’ is ROCKY! OUCH!!! Not to mention… I don’t see a lot of folks in the pics and Owens is always so busy.
I’m gonna have to go on a beach hunt with the girls and try to find this peaceful & sandy place of YOURS! LUCKY! LOL

  7. “But I like eating at church. They feed you. What would we have if we stayed home?” :D

Poor starved little waifs — what horrors have you been serving them, Kathy? ;)

Hope your not anymore sunburned at the end of the day than you already were…

  8. Great pictures, Kathy!

I can remember getting a terribly burn on my head…just where the part was. Not a comfortable place to burn.

Our church is also feed the workers (and their children) before VBS this year, but I also thought of Brian and opted out. On retrospect, Brian would probably enjoy a few nights eating by himself. He loves to cook and could have whatever he wanted…I’ll have to give that some more thought.

  9. Oh, that pic with Rainier in the background is STUNNING! I’ve never seen it that clearly from WA (and up in the air doesn’t count!).

My mom took her sister’s grandkids to the beach yesterday too, up on San Juan Island.

  10. Man, you are making me miss WA! I was just there in May and miss it so much. I could look at the scenery all day long! I can’t wait until next July. I am coming there to WA for atleast a week. I will mainly be in Seattle. I am coming for a family reunion on my grandpa’s side (the ones from Entait/Wenatchee). I don’t know specific dates yet but do know that the reunion is only July 4th.

Funny thing about the “church sponsored dinner”. Man you guys are taking Dave Ramsey’s words to heart, lol. Beans and rice, rice and beans. MMM…Actually we are having rice and beans tonight for dinner, lol.

BTW I submitted a friend request on your facebook. I didn’t realize until I read your blog that you were on.

    See ya!
